Nouvelle Fleur is an ode to the floral and fruity profiles of Ethiopian coffees. It's a tribute to Addis Ababa, whose name translates to Nouvelle Fleur (New Flower) in French, a city where the 1960s and 70s saw the emergence of a unique musical style, drawing on the country's roots and influences from West Africa and the United States. Perco tasting notes:
Driven by its endemic aromatic origin, Heirloom, and a light roast profile, this coffee navigates between a praline nose and notes of red fruit in the cup. A round, silky texture accompanies a perfectly balanced acidity.
Extracted using a cold process, this coffee leans towards liqueur and red fruit.
The human story of this café:
Taramesa Cooperative is located in the Shebedino district of the Sidama region, approximately 300 km south of Addis Ababa.
This coffee is called “natural” because immediately after picking, the cherries are spread out on drying beds for 22 days.
Taramesa has drying beds and a small warehouse for storing coffee ready to be shipped to Addis Ababa for final processing. The cooperative shares a cherry hulling unit with the neighboring Telamo cooperative. Taramesa is one of 42 member cooperatives of the Sidama Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (SCFCU). The SCFCU team is based in a processing plant in Addis Ababa. This union supports its members in establishing direct trade relationships with international coffee buyers and in implementing production practices that ensure continuous improvement in the quality of exported coffee.
Nouvelle Fleur, a poetic and committed identity:
The story of Nouvelle Fleur began in 2017 during the first "Percolateur" event at the Grand Narbonne Media Library. An album resonated beneath the diamond, that of a French group inspired by Ethiopian music: Arat Kilo. This second album from the group, Nouvelle Fleur, reveals the literal translation of the Ethiopian capital: Addid Abeba, and draws upon a musical history to fuse it once again with the West African sounds of Mamani Keita and the Boston-esque hip-hop of Mike Ladd.
